Qld:Insurance did not cover canyoning, says bank
The Commonwealth Bank says an insurance policy taken out by a man later killed in the1999 Swiss canyoning disaster did not cover him for such events.
Twenty-seven-year-old BILLY PEEL was one of 14 Australians killed when a flash floodswept 18 tourists to their deaths in a canyon near Interlaken in Switzerland in 1999.
His father BILL says his son had paid for the trip with his Commonwealth Bank GoldCredit Card, believing he'd also received free comprehensive travel insurance.
Mr PEEL has lodged a $250,000 law suit in the Brisbane Supreme Court.
But Commonwealth Bank spokesman BRYAN FITZGERALD says two independent tribunals havealready examined the case.
They found in favour of the Commonwealth Bank.
MR FITZGERALD says the travel insurance documents clearly spelt out BILLY was onlycovered while travelling -- that is, while he was in transit and not while canyoning.
