Fed: Costello says economy similar now to Budget outlook

CANBERRA, Aug 12 AAP - The Australian economy was meeting the government's expectations
at the time of the May Budget, Treasurer Peter Costello said today.

Jobs figures out today showed a jump in employment in July, and business and consumer
confidence are at or close to cyclical highs.

"I think the economy is looking now very much as we forecast at Budget time," Mr Costello said.
