SA: SA Opposition calls for tax cuts in budget

South Australia's Liberal opposition is calling for tax relief in next month's state
budget .. in the wake of two reports which warn of an economic downturn in the state.

Liberal shadow treasurer ROB LUCAS says the reports show a sluggish retail climate
and concerns about the state's engineering industry.

A monthly survey by the Engineering Employers' Association of SA says the industry's
outlook is the worst in more than seven years.

And Bureau of Stats figures show retail growth in SA is the worst of any state .. at
a rate of 2.4 per cent .. compared with the national average of 4.3 per cent.

The SA government will deliver its budget on September 21.
