NSW:New rail staff to get hands dirty for better service

CityRail's newest recruits will be paid more than 100 thousand dollars a year .. for
frontline tasks including fielding complaints from irate commuters .. selling tickets
.. and sweeping platforms.

NSW Transport Minister JOHN WATKINS and RailCorp chief executive VINCE GRAHAM say they'll
soon be employing four new senior customer service specialists .. to champion the concerns
of Sydney's rail commuters.

The customer general managers will ride trains and make themselves available on platforms.

They'll be responsible for the small day-to-day problems like closed ticket booths
at peak periods .. jammed gates .. broken signs and dirty stations.

The new managers should be in place by the second half of the year.
